Assistive Vocational Technology Associates
specializes in providing accommodation for people with disabilities in the
workplace or school based on professional assessments of our clients'
individual needs. AVTA provides a comprehensive solution addressing all aspects
of job accommodation from workplace evaluation and modification to
implementation and training on assistive devices.
Our role is to help you work better and more comfortably. In
order to do that we perform an assessment of your functional abilities and how
they relate to your work environment and the tasks you are called upon to
perform. This process places you at the centre and welcomes and expects your
input and decision making.
If you have a physical disability, learning disability, visual
impairment, repetitive strain injury, head injury we will be able to assist you
in finding the most appropriate accommodations to meet your specific goals.
During the course of the Accommodation Process
questions some of the questions we may ask include:
- What are your employment goals?
- What are the individual tasks that you do in a day?
- What are the performance expectations demanded of you?
- How does your disability impact on your ability to meet
those job demands?
- What accommodations do you have in place and what would you
like to see in place?
- Are your employer and coworkers supportive of your
accommodation needs?
- How comfortable are you with technology?
- What level of change and degree of accommodation are you
comfortable with?
We will encourage you to try different solutions but will not
force you to accept any suggestions that you are not comfortable with.
We may determine that new equipment or technology is required,
which might benefit your health and productivity. Since we do not represent any
companies or profit from the sale of any equipment we recommend you can have
confidence that only assistive devices that are in your best interest will ever
be suggested.
We ensure that all of our accepted suggestions are properly
personalized to accommodate your particular functional abilities and we will
train you in the use of devices in a manner geared to your learning and working
style.
Entering into postsecondary education can be daunting. Trying to
determine appropriate accommodations and potential funding sources can be
complex. Some of the questions you may ask?
- How do I get services?
- What services am I eligible for?
- Can I get extra time for exams and assignments?
- What sort of technology is available that can help me with my
reading and assignments?
- How should I plan my course selections to take into account
my disability?

What is the value of AVTA's service to my
company?
AVTA assists employees that have been injured or unwell to
return to their positions, overcoming the obstacles imposed by their functional
abilities by implementing appropriate assistive devices or technology. The
value of our efforts is demonstrated in the reduction of Sick Leave, Long Term
Disability costs, Workers Compensation claims and the retention of skilled and
valuable employees.
We can also assist you by ensuring that appropriate
accommodations are in place so that your employees with disabilities can meet
your workplace productivity goals and that you are able to meet your
Employment Equity Goals.
We will ensure that any assistive technologies are compatible
with your computing environment and on-site support systems.
Ergonomic evaluations of the workstation and implementation of
voice recognition, alternative keyboards and mice can help reduce and
prevent RSI.
AVTA can help ensure that your investment in accommodation is
going to result in increased employee productivity and
retention of valuable employees. Simply buying software
solutions without taking into account the accommodations process, ergonomics,
training and ongoing support can often result in frustration for both the
employee and employer.

Accessible Workplace.
